The black raspberries are popping off the vine here in Michigan back in July. Not to be confused with the plump and shiny blackberry (on the right), black raspberries (on the left) are related to red raspberries. They both share the same white color on the underside of their leaves. Black raspberries have a high concentration of anthocyanins which is a powerful antioxidant. This is the power behind the healing properties in purple foods. When you think of purple foods think of anthocyanins and anti-cancer. Black raspberries have 589mg of this purple magic per 100 grams. This outweighs acai, blueberries and cherries. The great thing about black raspberries is they're wild growing and free. Harvest and freeze them while they're in season and you won't have to shell out money for frozen bags of acai... Dr. Oz and Oprah won't tell you that.
